A few years ago, I co-founded a Development Agency (DevShop) and embarked on an ambitious project in the blockchain space with a client. Our team was exceptional, crafting numerous smart contracts and deploying a seemingly successful application. We even developed a comprehensive 100-page white paper to support client’s vision. Yet, something crucial was missing.
Losing Sight of the Core Objective
As we delved deeper into the project, we found ourselves caught in 'feature and team creep.' Our pursuit of perfection led us to develop an exhaustive product and white paper, causing us to lose sight of the client’s primary need: product idea validation. Although the DevShop executed its tasks with excellence, we misaligned our efforts with the client's business strategy.

The absence of a Fractional CTO was deeply felt. We needed someone who could strategically guide the project from the client’s side, focusing on aligning our technology with the business goals and market timelines. Unfortunately, the project drained its resources and ran out of cash, a stark reminder of the necessity for strategic leadership in tech ventures.
A New Venture with a Fractional CTO
A Shift in Strategy
Learning from experience, I co-founded a Blockchain startup, this time myself as a Fractional CTO along with the CEO. The difference in approach was night and day.
Rapid Validation and Scaling
We developed our MVP in just a month, opting for simplicity over complexity, and used blogs for idea communication as a whitepaper replacement. The project was quickly validated. We soon scaled the product effectively, gaining market traction and achieving a fit that turned the venture into a success story.
